Protect and Serve is a powerful story about truth and drama in the 'hood.' Ms. Bolton captures the primal essence of the hopelessness prevailing in the inner city while showing the strengths of family, spirituality and love that is essential in overcoming that hopelessness. A truly beautiful love story that will keep you captivated until the end. ~ Lani Roberts, Affaire de Coeur Magazine
A well written book with thwarted love and a little mystery thrown into the mix, Protect and Serve is a sensual romance with which to while away a pleasant afternoon. The romantic tension and sizzle when Penny and Jason are in the same room make this a book a romance that readers won’t want to miss. ~ Marilyn Heyman, Romance Reviews Today
Gwyneth Bolton masterfully handles some serious social issues in Protect and Serve without allowing them to overpower the romance.

Two New Paranormal Reads For You! Because I care... ;-)
We have two new paranormal romances that are doing innovative things with the genre. Tired of vampires and werewolves you say? Not so keen on adventures in outer space but you’d like some speculative elements and magical realism in your romance? Well award winning author A. C. Arthur and debut author Stefanie Worth have novels to fit the bill. And me being the bookaholic enabler of other bookaholics that I am, well, I just had to pass the information along to the rest of you...
I love everything sci-fi, speculative, paranormal, etc… Okay, maybe not everything, but I took a moment of me-time/reading time before diving into my revisions. And I decided I’d read a couple of new paranormals since I’m not writing my own paranormal at the moment. And since I always have to share when I read a good book, I figured I'd let you know about these...
A. C. Arthur’s Heart of the Phoenix was truly amazing. She takes Greek mythology, the intrigue and suspense she is known for, as well as the heat she is known for, and really delivers on this one. Normally my pick for shape-shifter books is always werewolves. Nalini Singh’s books have me considering putting the big cats in the mix since I have really enjoyed her two paranormals. But mostly I'm a werewolf gal. However, A. C. has me thinking about a phoenix… This hero is part phoenix and part god… And lawd have mercy, I see I’m going to have to add a bird shape-shifter to my list… I love the way Arthur weaved the Greek mythology into the novel. It reminded me of my first reading love. I spent a lot of time reading Greek myths as a kid. I highly recommend this one for folks who enjoy paranormals but want something different and more refreshing.
Here’s the blurb:
From the ashes he was born and in the thunderous flames he will soon die. But not before branding her heart. Tayla Hampton thought she had escaped her past. She was wrong. It’s caught up with her. Luckily she has a guardian angel…or something like that.
Thaddeus Delos is not you’re ordinary protector. His mythical DNA is proof of that. Still he hungers like a hot-blooded man, loves fiercely and will protect Tayla with his life. Only that life isn’t promised to him for much longer.
The next book comes from newcomer Stefanie Worth. Where Souls Collide is nothing short of a stunning debut. I loved this book and I was still thinking about it when I closed the pages. It is such a refreshing twist on soul mates. Refreshing and innovative and thrilling, those are words that come to mind as I try to think about how to describe this book. And the speculative elements and magical realism are done so well that it really pulls you into several worlds seamlessly. It really is a novel that you have to experience. I can’t really put into words all the things that are great about this book. As a writer, I appreciated the risks Worth took with the story telling, the rules of romance certainly get twisted all around in this one. And as a reader, I loved the voice and the draw of this novel. It pulled me in and refused to let me go. I highly recommend this one as well.
Here’s the blurb:
RELECTIONS OF THE PAST
Detroit journalist Nevena Larimore thought her romance with NBA star Maxwell McKnight would last forever, but forever came to an abrupt end fifteen years ago, leaving her brokenhearted. Now Maxwell is back in her life as the owner and editor of her newspaper, and Navena's turbulent feelings have come rushing back.
VISIONS OF THE PRESENT
Navena cannot find peace at home, either. Her boyfriend wants more of a commitment than she can give and she's haunted by prophetic dreams of murder.
DREAMS OF THE FUTURE
It is up to Navena to figure out her psychic legacy and prevent the murder...but not alone. After struggling with doubt, Maxwell realizes that Navena's visions are authentic, and it is she who might need saving. Navena may have extraordinary powers, but together they discover that real love is a force of its own.
What about you all? Have you read any good books lately? Go ahead, add a few books to my to-be-read pile... I won't mind... :-)
Much love and peace,
Gwyneth

More Great Summer Reads...
Because I really care that you will have enough to read this summer…
WHEN THE DUST SETTLES by T. Rhythm Knight
I heard about this book a few months ago when Deatri King-Bey sent out an announcement about it on a few list-serves that I’m on. I love paranormal and speculative fiction. So, I immediately placed it on my to-buy-soon list. I didn’t get around to it until a month or so ago and the book didn’t arrive from Amazon until a couple of weeks later. Once it came I picked it up and started reading it. Big mistake… I couldn’t put the book down. I had to spend the rest of the day and into the night reading. Don’t you just hate that? Anyway, this book has it all. It is part inspirational, part paranormal, part romance, part suspense/mystery/intrigue. I loved it! Normally, big ole sinner that I am, I don’t tend to gravitate towards inspirational novels. But this one was so engaging and enthralling and the message was so subtle that it had me really thinking about God and life in ways that I found refreshing. The only other works of fiction that had such an impact on me were Octavia Butler’s PARABLE OF THE TALENTS and PARABLE OF THE SOWER and Sandra Jackson-Opoku’s THE RIVER WHERE BLOOD IS BORN. This book is right up there with the greats of African American speculative fiction in my opinion. T. Rhythm Knight has a real talent for storytelling. And if I could find more inspirational novels like this one, I’d be one inspirational reading fool! I found this book to be different and refreshing and the blending of genres worked wonderfully. If you have ever wondered about life and if God has a plan for your life, or thought about your purpose, then this book will make you think some more. :-) This is a must read.
Here’s the blurb:
Mia Mitchell has been having premonitions for most of her life. While most consider her premonitions a gift, she considers her gift nothing more than a curse. Little does Mia know, her gift serves a special purpose in God's kingdom. As Mia battles the worst premonition of them all, demons are hell bent on destroying her. Will she be obedient and follow the urgings of her guardian angels, Kenu and Victor? Or, will she surrender to a disobedient spirit? You will have to wait until the dust settles to find out if God and his angels or Satan and his demons will prevail.
CREEPIN’, L. A. Banks, Donna Hill, Monica Jackson, J. M. Jefferies, Janice Sims
Here’s another book that I picked up and started reading as soon as the mailman dropped the box off. I’ll tell you I must have super sonic hearing when it comes to that mailman dropping a box. It’s as if my brain can smell the books or something. Anyway, this book came in my box of monthly purchases from eHarlequin. And I only meant to read a few pages. But you know how that goes with a good book... It didn’t help that the first story was by L. A. Banks and I puffy heart love me some Leslie Esdaile/L. A Banks/Leslie Esdaile Banks. That woman can write the ABC’s and I’d be like, wow, what a wonderful rendition of the ABC’s. But anyway, this anthology is a paranormal erotic thriller. What a combination of genres, authors and stories! These stories give new meaning to hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Each story has the elements of HOT SEX and revenge... really great combinations. L. A. Banks starts it off with a werewolf story that is just amazing. I love her vampire huntress series and after this story and her story in the VEGAS BITES anthology, I can’t wait for her new werewolf series… I’m chomping at the bit to read more of her werewolves! I just adore L. A. Bank’s voice and her flow. And this story did not disappoint. Donna Hill’s story is a hot and steamy remix of the film THE ENTITY. And Lord have mercy, this one might have you a little scared to go to sleep. What would you do if at any giving moment, sleeping or wake, you could be assaulted by some unseen entity that used sex to literally drive you out of your mind? This story had a nice surprise ending that really kicked up the horror-level a lot. I loved it. Monica Jackson’s twist on vampires was great. It reminded me of that old school advice folks used to give women who were always trying to find out if their man was cheating or keeping secrets. Be careful when you go out hunting and searching, because you never know what you might find… This one is lighter and has several funny moments. I liked the voice a lot. The writing team of J. M. Jefferies brings the voodoo to the anthology with a twisted and sexy revenge tale. What would you be willing to give up to get revenge on a man who cheated on you? The villain in this story is such a low life that he gets exactly what he deserves. And finally Janice Sims brings us into the world of Nephilims with the descendents of Fallen Angels living and loving right here on earth. All I have to say is the world building was amazing in this story. Amazing! I was totally captivated by the world she created and the characters. And Sarai was one bad-ass avenging angel. I hope she makes this into a series. All in all, if you are in for a nice mix of paranormal and erotica with some revenge, spice, intrigue and horror thrown in for good measure, this anthology is a must read.
Here’s the blurb:
A Woman Scorned Is A Force To Be Reckoned With . . . Welcome to a world of werewolves, vampires, demons and mere mortals, where, in the name of revenge, five women are about to live out their wildest fantasies—even if it means crossing over to that other side . . . Five of today's most provocative authors invite you into a realm beyond the limits of your sensual imagination, where anything can happen—and does. In these stories of bloodlust and vengeance, of scorching desire and otherworldly fantasies come true, you'll encounter five women who thought they had it all, until a betrayal takes them on a feverish journey to the dark edge of vengeance. Fueled by lust and deception, these women are going to let their voracious appetites guide them as they take justice into their own hands . . .
DARING DEVOTION by Elaine Overton
What would you do if your man worked in a dangerous job and suddenly got a promotion that put him in the line of fire even more? The thing I really loved about this novel is the way Elaine Overton showed the struggle that Andrea went through. On the one hand she wants to be the supportive fiancĂ©, but on the other hand she could be supporting him right out of her life... for good. Reading this book made me realize that I could never be a romance heroine. Sad but true… I’d do all the wrong things. I’d be plotting to get my man out of the dangerous job... saying all kinds of negative things to drop seeds of doubt. It wouldn’t be pretty and it wouldn’t be romantic. But Elaine Overton’s gift is she created a wonderful, real and conflicted heroine who had the doubts, issues and struggles, but handled herself like a truly stunning romance heroine should. And the hero, fire fighter Calvin Brown… LAWD. HAVE. MERCY. HOT.... And I’m not just talking about those fires he puts out…
Here’s the blurb:
Detroit social worker Andrea Chenault has always believed she can live with the fear that every firefighter's wife knows. But as her long-awaited wedding day approaches, she's tormented by secret doubts. Because it's becoming clear that deadly fires are targeting the man she loves beyond all reason. Calvin Brown is the bravest, strongest man she's ever known, and he's taken her to heights of passion she never knew existed. But as the circle of flames draws ever closer, Andrea wonders if even her overwhelming love for this man is strong enough to survive the terrible thought of a life without him...
BLUE SKIES by Adrianne Byrd
Nobody does enduring romance like Adrianne Byrd. Nobody! One of my all-time favorite books by her, MY DESTINY, was one of the first African American romance novels I read that took you through some years and showed the evolution of a relationship, the growth. She does it again with Sydney and James in BLUE SKIES and I loved it. It takes skill and creativity to take the readers on a journey of romance that spans some time. Sometimes when people meet, they don't get it right the first time. Sometimes it takes a minute to realize that you've met the love of your life. This novel moves back and forth between the space of about three years. And it will have you captivated on every page. It has everything I love about her novels, the funny, the sexy, and the emotional. And it adds the drama and suspense to the mix. I loved this book and it is going right along side all of my other Adrianne Byrd books, on my keeper shelf.
Here’s the blurb:
Air force fighter pilot Sydney Garret was born to fly. No other thrill came close enough to shake her—until she met Captain James Colton and found a reckless passion that led to fifty-five hours together as husband and wife. When they went their separate ways, Sydney's heart understood what her pride refused to admit—that someday, somehow, fate would reunite them. But no one imagined that it would be a matter of life and death… When Sydney's plane was shot down over enemy territory on a routine reconnaissance flight, James and his crew were deployed on a dangerous search-and-rescue operation where every second counted. But James was not only going in after one of the military's finest pilots—he was also racing to save the woman he loved.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS, Karyn Langhorne
Politics and Sex… This novel had all that and then some. I’ve heard people say that folks don’t want political issues in their romance novels. Well, if they are as smartly handled and executed as they are by Langhorne, then they don’t know what they are missing. This is an IR novel and I usually don’t read a lot of them. I got turned off by the ones that spent too much time talking about why the sister couldn’t find a good brother and comparing white men to black men, etc. A few years ago, I stumbled on to Karyn Langhorne’s first novel A PERSONAL MATTER and like this one it only had a black woman on the cover. It was only after I’d read a little ways in that I realized that I had picked up an IR and by then I had fallen in love with the voice and the story. And thankfully the novel didn’t have all the issues that I didn’t like about IR novels. UNFINISHED BUSINESS takes two people that couldn’t be more different and shows us that love doesn’t have to follow any political party. And it doesn’t care if you live in a red or a blue state, if you lean to the left or the right. The chemistry between the two leads is sizzling. The way the author weaves in the political issues is amazing. By the time I finished reading this one, I realized that the author made me fall in love with a damn Republican! LOL. Now you know that ain’t right! But it was a great read and I highly recommend it.
Here’s the blurb:
Black activist Erica Johnson wears her causes on her sleeve—literally. With her class of beloved fourth graders depending on her to represent their concerns, Erica's ready to confront golden-boy conservative senator Mark Newman. And she's willing to suffer through a night in jail and a battle of wits with a real-life war hero, if it will help get the children the money they need. Mark Newman's a worthy adversary. But there's a more human side to the ambitious politician with the dreamy blue eyes—from the physical pain of his war wound, to his grief over his wife's death. Though they disagree on every hot-button issue, Erica and Mark can't resist their attraction or ignore the unfinished business between them—much to the delight of those trying to use this new relationship against the senator. And when Erica starts receiving some particularly vicious hate mail she has to decide if this handsome dream from the right/wrong side of the political fence is worth risking her heart for . . . and maybe her life.
ONE GENTLE KNIGHT by Wayne Jordan
July 2007
Woooweeeee! Wayne Jordan brings in the heat with this one. I’m talking had a sister fanning herself several times throughout the read. LAWD. HAVE. MERCY. HOT. The characters in this novel have an instant attraction and find themselves in a passionate “no-strings” affair. Neither one of them wants to catch feelings… But they can’t control it. I have to say that this story was not only hot but also very emotional. And the novel had the beautiful use of language that I have come to expect in this author’s novels. The man can spin a phrase and have you thinking, ohh… that sounds so pretty… The prose is very visual, very poetic. And did I already mention that there were lots of really hot love scenes? Because there are… In any case, this is another book that you won’t be able to put down. Note, this is a July release. But those of us in the know, know that you can get all your Harlequin category romances a month early from eHarlequin. :-)
Here’s the blurb:
Barbados sugar plantation owner Shayne Knight fantasizes about escaping into the arms of a beautiful stranger—and lovely, sensual travel agent Carla Thompson is the answer to his secret desires. When he's called away suddenly, he vows to return to the island hideaway they shared and turn their no-strings affair into something more. But he's too late. Carla awakens, blissful and in love, and discovers Shayne is gone. She's hurt, mad and outta there. Soon she discovers he did leave her something besides memories. She's pregnant! But to claim the man and the love that was meant to be, she'll have to discover paradise all over again.
A CINDERELLA AFFAIR by A. C. Arthur
In stores August 2007
Last but not least, I got to read an advance copy of A. C. Arthur’s August release because I’m so cool and so fly… Ha ha ha… No seriously… I am so fresh and so cool… Okay… But really, I loved the first book in the series so much that maybe I hounded her just a little to get a chance to read the second one… I don’t know… It’s all a blur… I can't remember exactly how I came by this advance read... ;-) All I know is I loved this book just as much as I loved the first book in the series, LOVE ME LIKE NO OTHER. And she has me feigning for the third installment. Maybe I should drop a few not so subtle hints and she'll let me read that one in advance too... Hmmm... Anyway, this is the promotional quote I came up with for her after reading the wonderful novel: A. C. Arthur’s latest addition to the Triple Threat Brothers Series proves that fairy tales can come true through the healing and redemptive power of love. The attraction between Adam and Camille is powerful and instant and it makes for a page turning, can-not-put-it-down read from beginning to end. The heat levels are high in this novel, scorching hot! And, when all is said and done, readers will realize that in this hip and sexy remix of the fairy-tale, Prince Charming doesn’t have anything on Adam Donovan! And ladies… Cinderella NEVER had it so good! This is one for the keeper shelf.
And here’s the book blurb:
Adam Donovan is living the high life, buying and selling real estate, becoming a very rich and notable man. But when his next acquirement comes with a very attractive opponent he knows he’s seen before, Adam is for once thrown off his usually casual canter. Camille Davis has enough on her mind dealing with the loss of her father and the rise of her fashion design company. She’s in no mood to deal with her step-mother or the insane deal she’s made to sell her father’s home. A face-to-face confrontation with the man that wants to buy the property doesn’t go over much better since he’s also the star of the sexually explicit dreams she’s had for the past nine months. Can Adam and Camille come to terms in the board room…and the bedroom?
So, that’s it for now. And I promise, I will only give you more hot books to read for the rest of the time I have this blog… Hey, it’s not my fault. The blog does have the subtitle, “Reading and Writing African American Romance.” I’m supposed to tell you about all the great authors and books out there…. Until next time…
Happy Reading…

Just Because You Could Use a Few More Books on Your To-Be-Read Pile…
... Gwyneth is here to help you out... ;-)
It’s almost time for me to scale way back on my reading and stick to a fairly strict writing schedule. I have in no way made a dent in my to-be-read pile. And I keep buying more books because I like to support my fellow authors and I have a slight book addiction. Who am I kidding? I have a serious book affliction. Seriously... I need help. Someone should really have an intervention of something… Anyway, I read a few books that were really good and of course I had to share that with you all because if you have a book addiction like me, and a toppling over to-be-read pile, then I want to do all I can to help in your corruption. I mean, I really love to spread the word about great books... Yeah... that’s it.
Many of you are familiar with Angelia who frequently visits this blog. And if you haven’t visited her blog yet, you need to rush right over. The sister is always dropping wisdom over there, and just has the most amazing and thought-provoking posts. I love her blog. So, I of course wanted to read the books she has written as acVernon Menchan. I’d ordered her first novel, BLACK’S OBSESSION: BOOK I OF BLACK’S TRILOGY and her collection LOVE STORIES OF SOME PEOPLE I HAVE KNOWN a little while ago. And, as they sat on my to-be-read pile, she came out with CINNAMON’S UNIVERSE: BOOK II OF BLACK’S TRILOGY. The woman is doing her thing and putting these books on out there. She is self-published and I just think it is wonderful that she is manifesting her own destiny. She’ll be my August interview, so I wanted to read a couple of her books before then. I think the concept behind the trilogy is fresh and bold. We’ve all heard the old adage there are three sides to every story, your side, my side and the truth. Well, in Black’s Trilogy readers will get three sides and will have to come up with the truth as each character in this lovers threesome is revealed. I have to say, I enjoyed CINNAMON’S UNIVERSE. AcVernon’s Menchan’s story telling skills are tight. After reading about Cinnamon from Black’s eyes in the first book in the trilogy, I couldn’t wait to read more about this woman who seemed to have the power to make everyone around her fall in love with her. I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t think the trilogy can be called a romance in the typical HEA sense. I’ll have to read the last installment to see for sure. (So hurry up with BROWN'S Possession, Angelia!) But, so far, it is a wonderful love triangle.
Here’s the blurb:
Cinnamon Dubois Brown is a woman with everything. She's beautiful, spiritual, happily married for almost thirty years with two successful kids. What more could she want? What more could she have? Well, she just might want it all. Cinnamon discovered that Malcolm Black, her good friend since high school and her husband, William Brown's best friend has always been is love with her. For the past year they have tried to have a sophisticated, platonic friendship, though the heat between Cinnamon and Black has been rapidly increasing. She has had to admit her attraction to Black runs as deep as his feelings for her, but her love for Brown is as strong as it's ever been. The death of Black's mother forces them closer together. Will Cinnamon finally give into her feelings for Black in her quest to comfort him, be there for him as he had been for her? What role will Brown play in all of this? Will he continue to allow his wife and best friend to have their 'friendship'? Does he have secrets of his own? CINNAMON’S UNIVERSE will blow the lid off all of their feelings, and reveal secrets no one expected. Will Cinnamon try to love two? And will it be easy to do? We will soon find out. Welcome to CINNAMON’S UNIVERSE.
I also had the pleasure of reading Farrah Rochon’s debut novel, DELIVER ME. It was a wonderfully fun read. I love adding new authors to my collection. Rochon’s debut novel is funny and sexy. Take a playboy doctor and confront him with the one woman who can get under his skin and you’ve already got some sizzling chemistry. Add to that the fact that this playboy doctor made a decision a long time ago not to date other doctors and you’ve got some interesting page-turning fun. Add the fact that all of this is set in a post-Katrina New Orleans, and you get one amazing story. I really enjoyed this one.
Here’s the blurb:
Leaving An Imperfect Past...
Monica Gardner is starting over. The brokenhearted St. Louis native has nothing left at home any longer: her future is being an ER doctor at a New Orleans hospital. Her first day makes for a bumpy start as she continually runs into handsome but irascible Dr. Elijah Holmes--a man who could make her change her mind about finding true love.
For New Expectations…
For years, Dr. Eli Holmes has been living up to his own high expectations--and is burning himself out in the process. The only time this "Super Doc" ob-gyn slows down is to notice the beautiful eyes of a newcomer, Dr. Gardner. He's pleased to know that she's more than just a pretty face, she's also an ace physician. When they work together, sparks fly. But with both Monica and Eli trying to hard not to fall in love, they realize they can't resist this affair of the heart.
I fell in love with the cover of Rhonda Jackson Joseph’s CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT and that’s why I purchased it. The story kept me riveted to the pages and I had to pull an all-nighter to finish it. I couldn’t put it down. Fans of films like WHEN HARRY MET SALLY will love this novel. The novel showcases a couple of my favorite romance plots, lover’s reunited and rivals turned lovers. It’s so entertaining to watch people who think they can manipulate when they will give into love. What I loved the most about this novel is that even though they fought their feelings those feeling came through in their actions. Joseph really shows us how much they care for one another. And the hero is lawd have mercy HOT. She had me falling in love with Tonzell "TJ" Jones from the very moment he stepped on the scene.
Here’s the Blurb:
Cishawn and Tonzell both know what they want from life. Cishawn wants to be able to maintain her independence while pursuing the career of her heart. Tonzell wants to be able to grow his fledgling business without the distraction of a relationship. When the time is right, each wishes to find the perfect mate: for Cishawn, that would be a man who appreciates and supports her independence. Tonzell wants an old fashioned woman like his Granny to build his life with. The problem is, Cishawn's quest for independence serves as a blockade between her and potential mates. She cannot be what Tonzell needs her to be, and that is the needy, damsel in distress who is looking to be rescued. Can Tonzell accept not being the noble rescuer?
Last but not least, I read erotic romance author Bridget Midway's LOVE MY WAY. Now if you read this blog often, you know I’m not a huge fan of reality television, especially find the love of your life shows like THE BACHELOR or FLAVA OF LOVE. But Midway delivered a fictional reality TV show that I could see my err… freaky little self… watching. LOL. This novel was funny, emotional and just jammed pack with the hottest, steamiest chemistry. Wooooweee! Now it does have some BDSM elements to it, so it’s not for the feint of heart. But, for those looking for a wild read that will literally push your comfort levels, LOVE MY WAY is just the book for they’ve been waiting for. I love that it is a fresh take on IR romance and just a really fun read. This is an e-book available from Loose ID.
Here’s the blurb:
After media mogul and out and proud BDSM Master, Eagan Morton, releases his current submissive, he's a little out of it. So much so that he even passes over talented dancers during an audition for one of his upcoming TV shows. When his friend finds out about his dilemma, he makes a strange suggestion: find his next submissive on a reality TV show. It worked for “The Bachelor,” so why not Eagan? Eagan’s skeptical, but he agrees to go through with it. He needs to turn his life around.
When Ananda Zelder is passed over during a dance audition held by none other than Eagan (or Ego as she calls him) Morton, she's furious. But being furious only gets her so far. She's also broke and about to give up the dancing she loves. When she hears Eagan has a new reality TV show he’s casting, she's all for it...until she sees it's all about domination, submission and a lot of whips and chains. Still, revenge is a dish best served cold, like a turn-down on network television cold.
Because she’s dressed in a hood at all times, Eagan has no idea the one contestant who intrigues him most is the same woman he passed over in an audition a few months ago because she was too good for the job. While Ananda is discovering a part of herself she never knew existed, Eagan is rediscovering his true dominant passion through her. However when the masks are off and their true selves are revealed, will love dominate? Or will they both submit to the history of their first meeting?
So if you are looking for some hot and steamy summer reads, you might want to check one or all of these out. :-)

Black Butterfly Review for Sweet Sensation!

The Black Butterfly Review for SWEET SENSATION is in. They give it 5 Stars! Here's some of what they said:
"Ms. Bolton's debut novel I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME is the launch pad for her most incredible love story in SWEET SENSATION...
SWEET SENSATION is a mesmerizing story that seems to develop and take on a life of its own right before your eyes...
I could go all day telling you about this story. It is highly recommended for oodles of reasons. It is a sensational love story, the sex is off the hook HOT and the layout of the story is just awesome. On a side note, I must state that I did not necessary agree with Sweet Dee's decision to keep her daughter from her father, but I understand that fear will have you do many things. In the context of this story, it served as a wonderful foundation to bringing this family and this love story full circle allowing something that we all need at one time or another: Closure. RAWSISTAZ Give SWEET SENSATION 4.5 Stars!

Hi all,
The RAWSISTAZ review is in for SWEET SENSATION. They gave it 4.5 Stars! So that means I have my second RAWSISTAZ Favorite. I'm so geeked. Here's a blurb from the review:
"I highly commend Gwyneth Bolton for creating a wonderful tale that shatters the stereotypes surrounding the hip hop generation. Despite the fact that SWEET SENSATION follows the general rules for romance, it is a unique story that offers a few surprises. The hero and heroine are multi-dimensional, quirky, and imaginative and the supporting characters add depth and texture to the story. I enjoyed that there were numerous positive male characters, the social commentary, and the fact that the story highlighted the human side of hip hop artists. SWEET SENSATION is likely to appeal to a broad audience of readers. Fans of traditional romance will enjoy it." ~ Reviewed by Stacey Seay of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Kimber An does SWEET SENSATION
Kimber An has a new blog that she is devoting to reviewing romance novels and industry issues. The blog is called Enduring Romance. And she has posted her review of SWEET SENSATION there. Stop by and check it out and be sure to support this wonderful new endeavor.
I'll get back to posting soon. Playing catch up after traveling and then getting sick means I don't have time right now to tell you all how stupid I think the people giving Oprah a hard time about the rules at her school are. And I realize I haven't called Puffy an idiot in a while or ragged on Essence Magazine in a minute. And you don't even want to hear what I think about that disgrace to Black womanhood New York... Maybe in the near future... For now, check out Kimber An's review here:

Two More Reviews for Cuffed!

4.5 Stars from APOOO BookClub
"Cuffed by Candlelight by Beverly Jenkins, Gwyneth Bolton and Katherine D. Jones is a compilation of three romantically, erotic short stories with the connecting theme being an involvement in law enforcement. Otherwise the stories could not be more diverse... Handcuffs Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry by Gwyneth Bolton is a hip-hop influenced wild ride of a story. Police Officer Tamara Downing is working undercover to bring down Murder Row music's Tommy Coles. Coles' music business is a front for drug activity and prostitution. Just when she is about to close the case, DEA Officer Lance King intervenes. Lance and Tamara's lives have been linked since childhood and he feels a need to protect her. Tamara is not interested because what she wants from Lance has nothing to do with protection. What she is going to find out is Lance has his own plans where she is concerned... I recommend this anthology to anyone interested in romantic heat and diversity in stories. Prisoner is a historical, romantic adventure. Gunns and Roses boasts contemporary flavor, while Handcuffs is cutting-edge and hip-hop influenced. What they all have in common is unbridled heat." Angelia Menchan for APOOO BookClub
3 stars, VERY GOOD from Shades of Romance Magazine
"Cuffed by Candlelight is the opening act in Parker Publishing Noire Passion line. I found that all of the heroines in the three novellas were strong women and it gave the anthology an edge that most do not have - tasteful erotica... Gwyneth Bolton's novella, Handcuffs Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry, was a perfect end to this anthology. This novella has characters that are true to life and easy to relate to... Ms. Bolton's novella was entertaining and the characters were interesting. The history of the main characters gave a deeper understanding to the passion between them and the use of the handcuffs were a classy end to this anthology." ~ Renee Motley for Shades of Romance Magazine

APOOO Gives Divine Destiny 5 Stars!

The review from APOOO Book Club is in and they gave it five stars. Here's an excerpt from the review: "As a fan of science fiction and fantasy, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Ms. Bolton's ability to weave a story with just the right amount of conflict and romance is nothing short of remarkable. In addition, her characters were unforgettable. Long after the last page was turned, I found myself thinking about Kara and Darwu. If you are a fan of romance, with a little mix of science fiction and enough steamy romance scenes to keep your eyes glued to the pages, Divine Destiny is a definite must read." ~ T. Romance Junkies and Romantic Times Reviews for Sweet Sensation! And an interview!
Sweet Sensation-my March release-got two great reviews from Romance Junkies and Romantic Times Book Review! Romance Junkies gave it 5 stars and Romantic Times gave it 4 stars. I'm really excited about the reviews that Sweet Sensation and my novella in Cuffed have gotten, because I really think that I finally found my voice in these pieces. Anyway, here are some excerpts from the reviews.
Also, check out my interview on Delilah Dawson's Blog! And if you haven't read Delilah Dawson's newest novel, Something Naughty, what are you waiting for? :-)
Romance Junkies 5 Stars!
"Ex hip-hop artist Sweet Dee was living a nice simple existence until a 'Whatever Happened to . . . ?' show exposed the fact that she'd had producer and record label owner Flex's love child. Her life is turned upside down when Flex reenters her life and insists that they marry. It doesn't matter that Kayla is no longer a baby. He wants both 'his' women living with him as soon as possible... Gwyneth Bolton brings readers into the exciting and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop with her newest book SWEET SENSATION. We were first introduced to Flex and Sweet Dee in Ms. Bolton's first book I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME and I've been anxiously awaiting their story ever since. I've gotta tell you I loved the attitude and spirit that are apparent throughout this storyline. It's full of all the culture and enthusiasm I remember from when hip-hop first became so popular...Deidre and Kayla are so very much alike I just adored the scenes where they expressed their differing views on Deidre marrying Flex and Kayla's plan to become a rapper. The scene where they indulge in a free-style battle is just hilarious. Flex and Deidre may not have been together over the past decade but it's obvious the feelings are still there. They have issues - both past and present - that need to be addressed and there's no shortage of heated moments between them. Congratulations Ms. Bolton on yet another fabulous story!" -- Chrissy Dionne
Romantic Times Book Review 4 Stars!
"Instead of another 'hip-hop' book filled with violence, sex and drugs, Bolton's latest surprises with the sweet story of Flex, a scrawny, preppy high school boy who becomes a sexy music mogul. Readers will root for him to reclaim his former love." - Robin R. Pendleton

Romance Junkies Gives Cuffed Five Blue Ribbons!

Here's an excerpt from the review:
"Break out the handcuffs, light some candles and indulge yourself in these three passionate tales written by Beverly Jenkins, Gwyneth Bolton and Katherine D. Jones...
Gwyneth Bolton finals out this thrilling anthology with a fantastic storyline and kick butt heroine whom readers are going to love. Tamara is brave, daring, and not about to sit back and let Lance play the 'knight in shining armor' for her. I had to laugh at the dialogue between Tamara and Lance. It's so obvious that they have unresolved issues and neither of them is willing to back down or admit to needing each other. This story is feisty and filled with all the emotional turmoil that I've come to expect when picking up one of Ms. Bolton's tales...
All of the stories contained within the CUFFED BY CANDLELIGHT anthology are simply delightful. The one thing I did notice that all three stories have in common is brave women who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe or the men they love. Each of these authors brought daring characters, thrilling plots, and super hot sex into this one dynamic anthology. Handcuffs have never been so sexy." -- Chrissy Dionne for Romance Junkies

How about some funny to go with all that sexy?
Well folks, I am about to go back to land of writing, deadlines and no more pleasure reading… At least until I rebel again and say "To hell with deadlines! I'm reading [insert favorite author's or new exciting author's name here] new book!" Honestly, since the semester started Tuesday and I'm back in the classroom, I won't have time to read for fun. Well, not if I want to meet my deadlines… But, anyway, I wanted to share my thoughts on two hot, funny and sexy books that I had the pleasure of reading this past weekend. These books blended some of my favorite things perfectly. They were funny and sexy. And they had the right amount of emotional pull that made me care about the characters and fall in love with them. Oh, and did I mention they were really sexy books? :-)
Delilah Dawson's Something Naughty is an erotic romance that is at the same time HOT and hilarious. I love the 'when opposites attract' storyline at play in the novel. Damon Becker is a straight-laced businessman who is about to head up his family's longstanding business wear company. The company makes fine tailored suits for men and women. So, imagine his surprise when he finds out that his ailing grandmother has struck up a business partnership with a Naughty Devil, a company that sells things like edible underwear, velvet handcuffs and the like. And imagine his surprise when he meets one of the company's owners, the lovely and very sexy Tanika Davis. She pushes him past his comfort zones and he pushes back. She inspires him to delve into his naughty side and when brother man is unleashed… Well, all I can say is get your fan ready! I love the way that Delilah Dawson works the fantasies in ways that are both playful and sexy. And I also love the way she is able to emotionally pull the reader in to the story even with all the fun and sex. That to me is the mark of a wonderfully written erotic romance. I cared deeply about all the characters. If you like a book that will have you laughing out loud one minute and reaching for a fan or a glass of ice water the next, then do yourself a favor and try Something Naughty.
I have been a fan of Adrianne Byrd's writing for a while now. And her February release, When Valentines Collide, will not disappoint longtime readers. It didn't disappoint me at all. In this novel we have Dr. Chante Valentine and Dr. Matthew Valentine, both "love doctors" so to speak. They make their living as relationship experts. They are trained and degreed counselors. They help people stay together for a living. So, imagine the shock and horror that would occur if the world found out that America's top relationship gurus are having a little trouble in their own marriage. This book had so many laugh-out-loud moments that I found myself chuckling just about the entire time I read it. The antics that these two pull on one another had me rolling! But when they connected… when they started to work it out and get it together… Have. Mercy. Hot! I loved the way Adrianne Byrd was able to make their chemistry leap of the page. When they had their knockdown drag outs, it popped. When they were scheming and conniving to one-up one another, it sizzled. When they decided to try and save their marriage with a little sexual healing, it exploded. This book was really good. If you like movies like War of the Roses and Mr. and Mrs. Smith or if you ever wondered what would happen if Oprah hooked up with Dr. Phil, then this book might just make your day.
Happy Reading!

Another Review for Divine Destiny!
Black Butterfly Review gave it 5 Stars!
Here's an excerpt:
"Ms. Bolton has really outdone herself in her transition from the genre of romance to that of erotica. The characters exude strength, determination, and sexual sensuality. The sexual scenes in this book are very believable. In most cases, Ms. Bolton's words will leave you wanting, panting, and eagerly anticipating your next encounter. This is not just a book for your to be read pile, it is definitely a MUST read." -- Eleanor S. Shields for Black Butterfly Review

Romance. Suspense. Intrigue. Drama...
Confession number one: I used to be one of those genre purists. Way back in the day, I would cringe at the thought of a paranormal romance or romantic suspense. I certainly wouldn't deign to read one of those "mixed books." I read widely across genres. But I was like one of those kids who didn't like their food to touch on the plate. So I wouldn't even have picked up a book that proclaimed itself a romantic suspense novel. (And I certainly couldn't have imagined writing a paranormal erotic romance.) Thank goodness my quirky reading habits have changed! I recently went on romantic suspense reading spree and read three really great novels that I want to tell you all about. So, take a minute and go on a little journey with me.
The first novel on my trip was Deatri King-Bey's Beauty and the Beast. Some of you might remember that Deatri stopped by my blog in December for an author interview. Check it out in the archives if you’d like to find out a little more about her. Anyway, I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast immensely. At its heart the novel is a retelling of the wonderful fairy-tale. But it is also action-packed and has enough suspense and intrigue to keep you turning the pages. I loved both the hero and the heroine in this novel. But the hero really made me fall in love. He was a different kind of hero in that he suffered from bipolar disorder. However, Deatri does an excellent job showing how the relationship between Bruce Maxwell and Nefertiti Townes grows, how they learn to heal themselves and each other. And on top of that we get some bad guys and mystery thrown into the mix. The novel has several twists and turns and a few surprises. I would definitely recommend this book!
Then I read Patricia Sargeant's new novel You Belong to Me. This is Patricia's first novel and it was really good! It was the perfect mix of romance and suspense. I loved several things about this novel. First, it had one of my favorite romance plots at its core, the lovers reunited plot. I love it when folks give love a second chance. (I guess that's why two of favorite love songs are Shalimar's "Second Time Around" and Peaches and Herb's "Reunited.") Anyway, Nicole Collins is a science fiction writer who finds that her ex-husband Malcolm Bryant owns a film company and he wants to buy the rights to her series. Add a crazed fan to the mix that doesn't want to see the "family" that he/she loves destroyed by Hollywood and you get a novel jam packed with intrigue and drama. I loved trying to figure out who the crazed fan and possible murderer was. And I loved all the twists and turns Patricia put in along the way. The love story and the mystery are equally strong in this one. Pick this one up today!
Finally, I read Beverly Jenkin's Sexy/Dangerous. This book was great! So far I have really enjoyed all of her romantic suspense novels. She normally writes historical romances. And I don't usually read a lot of historical romances. So, when she started writing these contemporary romantic suspense novels I automatically picked them up. Sexy/Dangerous is my favorite of her romantic suspense novels so far because the heroine, Maxine "Max" Blake is a bad girl! And I'm talking bad like Shaft--I'll kick your butt kind of bad! She's an ex-marine, an ex-cop and secret agent. And she is in charge of protecting the hero, Dr. Adam Gary. He's discovered a product that can revolutionize the world and some people want it and are willing to kill him to get it. But they have to go through Max first, and that ain't easy! Did I already say that I loved this book? I really did love it. Funny how just that simple switch, having the woman protect the man, can make for such a thrilling and page-turning read! If you want to read a book with a super-bad sister kicking butt and taking names, this one is a must!
So what about you? Have you read any good books lately? Are you a genre purist or do you like to mix it up? Have you read any of these books and have a different take? Also, I should let you all know that next month's author on Gwyneth’s Blog, Katherine D. Jones is making a name for herself as the queen of African-American romantic suspense. She has written a series of books that perfectly marry romance and suspense. So be sure to check out her interview next month. Until next time…
Happy reading,
Gwyneth

Romantic Times Review for Cuffed by Candlelight
I just keep getting news that I can't wait to share... The Romantic Times review is in for Cuffed by Candlelight the erotic romance anthology that I'm in with Beverly Jenkins and Katherine D. Jones. They gave it 4 stars! Here's the review:
CUFFED BY CANDLELIGHT
by Beverly Jenkins, Gwyneth Bolton and Katherine D. Jones
RT Rating: 4
Published: February 2007
Review:
Since Jenkins is renowned for her historical romances, the scandalous and outrageous sexual romps between the restrained woman who marries a paroled inmate are shockingly titillating. She forces you to shed stereotypes of Southern belles. "Guns and Roses," by Jones, is a mature twist from the horde of hip-hop books about sex and drugs in prison. Bolton's contribution, "Handcuffs Mean Never Having to Say You're Sorry," has several scorching moments. Throughout, the characterization is crisp, and the pace is moderated so precisely that you're primed for more.
Summary:
Jenkins' "Prisoner" opens our eyes to post-slavery Kansas while dispelling the notion that the joy of sex is relegated to harlots, and decision-making to men. Officer Gunn in Jones' story is torn between ethics and her own blatant prejudices when lustful thoughts of an arrogant inmate's brother persist. In Bolton's story, what happens when "I love you like a brother or sister" is overtaken by carnal desires is exposed, sometimes humorously. -- Robin R. Pendleton

I Puffy Heart Lo-ve Anthologies
I love anthologies. It's not so much that I like shorter reads, but more that I like being able to read something and finish it even when I have a bunch of stuff going on in my life. I can read a novella and finish it without the same amount of guilt that I feel when I take the time to read a full novel. The other thing I love about anthologies is usually you get at least two of your favorite authors in one book, sometimes more. And it's just heaven when you get three or four of your favorite authors in the same book. The other thing I love is that in addition to getting your favorite author, sometimes you get introduced to a new author. I love being introduced to new authors. And I love acquiring new favorite writers.
I just finished reading the anthology, Takin' Chances for the Holidays. It features novellas by three amazing best selling authors, Adrianne Byrd, Donna Hill, and Monica Jackson. The stories are H-O-T! They offer three quick reads by these three very talented writers. The stories were fresh and had a bit of an edge to them. They had a sassiness to them that I loved.
I also finished the novellas in the anthology Vegas Bites: A Werewolf Romance Anthology. And all I can say to this is, YES! I finally got my Black weres! I am so happy that more sisters are writing paranormals. I really loved this anthology. I'd read vampire paranormals by two of the authors, L. A. Banks and J. M. Jeffries and contemporary romances by the other two authors, Seressia Glass and Natalie Dunbar. But what these women did with those Black werewolf packs... Lawd. Have. Mercy.
I have lots of favorite anthologies and I'll be adding these to the list. Do you like anthologies? Or do shorter reads not have enough meat for you? Do you have favorites? What are you reading now? Any suggestions for a good read? Let me know. Until next time...
Happy Reading,
Gwyneth
