Throwback Thursdays

Toys of yesterday...

These are two toys that I absolutely hated.

RUBIK'S CUBE

AND

KERBANGERS

Why did I hate these toys you ask? Because I couldn't do them of course. I could never get that stupid rubik's cube right. Unless I cheated... I remember taking all the stickers off and putting them back on so that it looked like I'd won. LOL. And those kerbangers? Forget about it... I'm lucky I didn't put my eye out trying to get those stupid balls to go fast. My sister could do the kerbangers really well. She was irritating like that when we were kids...

Yep. I hated those toys. Just thought I'd share. Any toys from your childhood that you hated?

much love and peace,

Gwyneth

  1. I.m struggling to think of a toy I hated, hmmm, goodness, I can't think of one but I really loved Lincoln Logs and Legos, still do in fact, oh I know one I didn't like that much Clackers, they were two hard balls on a string that you clacked together, they were just weird to me...

    I loved all the toys...lol

I did the rubik's cube and loved the clackers. Too bad I can't get them for my boys... they'd beat each other with them...lol

    Good throwback

  4. Not familiar with Kerbangers, but Rubik's Cube was awesome! I still have one and it still boggles the mind, at times.

  5. I'm with you on this one. My daughter had both of those things, and they made me nuts!

  6. Are those those things that females used to sit around and make tap against each other? LOL. I absolutel hate those irritating things.

The Rubiks Cube was okay. Whenever I got to the point where I couldnt solve it...do you remember when we'd peel the color off and try and fool people like we solved it?

    LOL.

Girl, I loved the rubiks cube...I like puzzles and no matter how long it took me, I was determined to solve it. It got frustrating though...especially if i was so close and then someone came behind me and picked it up and messed up my groove. lol

  8. I thought 'Pac-Man' was irritating as heck. I never played it, as a result. Besides that, I only had baby dolls and I loved all of them like crazy.

    I didn't have toys when I was small. I had a part-time job.

    Just kidding...

I seem to remember having a distaste for dolls, particularly Barbies. My mom did buy me a beautiful Black doll named Christie, who I renamed Monique and practiced my cosmetology skills upon. Otherwise, I didn't hate any toys.

  10. I've never heard of the Kerbangers, but I LOVED the Rubik's Cube. :*) I didn't hate any toys really, except my brother's G.I. Joes...lol. :*)

I actually still have a Rubik's Cube and I still try to solve it. I definitely got frustrated when I got all the colors except one.

  12. I hated the Slinky because we didn't have stairs. And I hated the Etch-A-Sketch because I couldn't make the lines curve.

The toys are different, but the reasons are the same! BTW, I was an adult when the Rubik's cube came out, and the most I could do was get one side the same color.

  13. Angelia ~ I liked Legos too. Even though I could never build anything really cool like they had pictured on the boxes and in the commercials. And Clackers, Kerbangers, whatever name they go by, I can't stand them. LOL.

Genesis ~ Yeah, those clacker/kerbangers would make serious weapons. LOL.

Rageyone ~ I guess I just don't have the patience for Rubik's Cube. That thing made me want to throw it across the room.

Chicki ~ Okay! I knew someone would feel me.

Don ~ I used to peel the colors off and try and fool people all the time. That's the most fun I ever had with Rubik's Cube. LOL.

Shelia ~ I guess I can only take but so much frustration. It just wasn't the game for me. LOL.

  14. Kimber An ~ I hated Pac Man too come to think of it. In fact I blame Pac Man for the reason I never reallt took to video games. I tried playing Pac Man and wasn't good at it and decided I didn't like video games.... Hmm.... I seeing a pattern here about my personality... I'll just pretend I don't see it.

Tamika ~ LOL. I'd believe you if you said you had a part time job getting on your parents' nerves. LOL. And how can you hate dolls. I loved all of my Barbie dolls. I used to love to buy outfits for them and dress them up. In fact I blame Barbie for the fact that I'm a shopaholic today.

Tyhitia ~ Kerbangers might be before your time, youngun.

Bettye ~ Great ones! I hate those too. The Slinky never worked for me like the one in the commercial. And I could never make the cool drawings with my Etch-A-Sketch that they showed on the box and in commercials. LOL.

  15. I've destroyed a Rubik's Cube in my day, too. Took all the sticker off and put them on so it'll look like I was smart.

I can't think of any other toys that I didn't like. I can remember loving Candy Lane, but that's because I'm a big girl and I've always loved candy. :P

  16. I think I solved the Rubik's cube once.

I loved Kerbangers, Clackers, or as we called them "Click-clacks".

I hated Etch-a-Sketch because the silver stuff always leaked out after a while.

I hated Slinky because we had wooden stairs and we never could get that thing to work.

I hated PacMan too because I never had good hand-eye coordination, and like you Gwyneth, that was it for me as far as video games. But I was great at jacks. Not sure why the hand-eye thing didn't mess me up there.

  17. laffn at the superpass drawing -- if a boy did that wrong -- he'd see just why the kerbanger got its name. Laffn at Tamika -- I had a black barbie Christie doll too. Have a good weekend Gwyneth.

  18. Patricia ~ We used to call them click-clacks sometimes too. I guess my hand-eye coordination was off too. LOL.

Michelle ~ LOL. I know that's right. He'd get a bang all right! Have a great weekend! :-)

The paddle ball toy. Hated it.

It was a ping pong paddle with a long thin elastic band stapled to it and attached to a small rubber ball. The show-offs in school could paddle longer than the flavor lasted in a piece of Bazooka gum. Like the clackers/kerbangers, it should have come with a warning to wear safety glasses.

Slinky always got tangled up. That became my rubik's cube... untangling slinky. lol.

  20. You know what I could never do that paddle ball toy either. I hate it too. LOL. I wonder why so many toys are designed to take out eyes. LOL.

  21. I LOVED Kerbangers!!! That is until one of my bratty brothers let one fly too close and straight capped me on the forehead! OW...I still have the scar, lol! Even then, I couldn't stop. I could kerbanger my @ss off, gurrrlll! LOL...good times, good times ;)

  22. Kim ~ Girl, you sound like you were just like my sister with those damn kerbangers. She used to make me sick 'cause I could never get mine to work like that. Hers would be going back and forth so fast and around and around. You would have worked my nerves. LOL.

  23. What is this the blasphemy blog?????
You don't like Rubiks cube, you don't like Kerbangers, and someone said they didn't like Pac Man...hold on let me calm down (putting my earrings back on).

Okay I'm back. As you can tell I liked EVERYTHING. It doesn't take much to please me. And I loved Pac Man. Don't let me see a game of Pac Man now, I will take someone DOWN ooh and CENTIPEDE. Now THAT was my game.
And Rubik's cube wasn't that difficult if you did it enough times you could at least figure out what not to do. Kerbangers...it's all in the wrists. Geesh people, what happened to "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again."

WAIT-A-MINUTE....I'm still reading. Did someone just diss my etch a sketch?

What kind of Nazi's are on this board?
And whereas I wasn't the best with the paddle and the ball, I kept on trying determined to get it. (Confession - I ended up cheating wrapping the string around the paddle a few times. Once it was shorter it was sooo much easier to paddle).

Man thanks for the trip down memory lane. Now I want to go outside and play some chinese jump rope.
"Jump in, jump out, jump side to side, jump on, jump in, jump out..."

  24. KD ~ Those toys just suck. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes they suck. LOL. Deep down you know they suck. You just want to be different. Show me the artistic masterpiece you were able to create with Etch-a-Sketch... I wanna see it. That is one crappy toy. ;-)
