Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

On January 13, 1913, Twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University founded Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Wishing to de-emphasize the social aspect of sorority life, our beloved Founders instead demonstrated genuine concern for social welfare and cultural enrichment while promoting high academic standards. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913. Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated in 1930.

  6. When I lived in Florida I used to take an annual bus trip with the Deltas down to the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Fort Lauderdale. I'm not a soror myself, and the friend who told us about the trip (and went herself!) is an AKA, but the Deltas were cool about it. I just always tried to wear the right colors (or better, not wear the wrong ones). I must have made a good impression. They invited me to do a booksigning at one of their socials.

Happy Founder's Day to the Deltas!
